Did You Hear About...?

Gosssip / Misplaced Paternalism

How many times have you found out something about somebody you work with and - you don't mean to – but you start treating the person differently. Believe it or not, that could end up being a bad thing. Gossip in the workplace usually ends up bad...for everyone.

Additional Information

Even well-meaning actions can be discriminatory, especially when they take the form of misplaced paternalism. Taking employment actions that you believe are in the employee’s “best interests” are discrimination if they are based on stereotypes about a disability, or sex, or any other characteristic protected by law.
