Difficult Name (from Inclusion 101™)

Refocusing on Professional Qualifications to Avoid Bias in Hiring

A person's name on a resume is often the first impression we have of them. If we find a name "difficult to pronounce" or "unusual," it may reveal an unconscious bias. Just as we should avoid making assumptions based on someone's appearance, it's equally important not to judge individuals based on their name—especially when making hiring decisions.

Additional Information

Judging a candidate based on their name can reflect unconscious bias, just like judging based on appearance... and both should be avoided in hiring decisions.
