Managing Essentials™ Perform Beyond Skill Level

Managing for Peak Performance

You have an employee who may have been promoted beyond their capability, or perhaps the job outgrew this employee. What do you do? This video scenario provides the just-in-time information and tools needed to help a manager address the situation while maintaining a respectful workplace.

Additional Information

Employees should feel that their input is valued and you should encourage this employee to contribute ideas for improvement to the proper management. However, you must let the employee know that the organization has already spent a lot of time and money to determine the current methods of operation. Explain the reasoning behind the existing procedures and why it is necessary for the employee to adhere to these procedures. For example, the employee must enter his or her reports into the right computer program so it can be accessed by other employees who also need that information. The employee must understand that he or she needs to conform to these standards and must learn the appropriate skills to complete these tasks.
