Let's face it, safety rules apply to everyone. Even a small infraction can result in a serious injury. You must let the employee know that the organization has already spent a lot of time and money to determine the current safety policies. Explain the reasoning behind the existing policies (such as government regulations or probability statistics for certain types of accidents) and why it is necessary for the employee to adhere to these policies. The employee must understand that he or she needs to conform to these safety standards as a requirement of his or her employment.
