Unwelcome sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that violates the Maine Human Rights Act. Unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature which threatens job security, working conditions, or advancement opportunities is considered sexual harassment.

Under Maine's sexual harassment prevention law (26 M.R.S.A S807), employers with more than 15 employees must provide sexual harassment training to all employees. All supervisors must also be provided with training within one year of attaining a supervisory position. Employers must provide the training within one year of hiring a new employee.
