Controlling the Interview

Steering Interviews Back on Track

When a candidate gets off the subject or starts to ramble, it's important not to lose control of the interview. The person asking the questions is the person in control. Sometimes there's a need to interrupt the rambling and say that there are more questions to ask. It sounds harsh, but remember the significance of getting the answers needed to make the best hiring decision.

Additional Information

Hiring decisions affect much more than just the manager and their department. It’s critical that interviewers do a good job in the selection process so that the organization, new employees, current employees, and customers all benefit. Controlling the interview is a key part of the behavior-based/structured interviewing process.
