The “command and control” leadership style that was often experienced as the norm by Baby Boomers. Gen Xers tend to be more collaborative, have less hierarchy and sometimes fewer, or more relaxed rules. This is even more true for Millennials and Gen Zs as they become the majority of the workforce. These different experiences and expectations are why learning to communicate across generations is so important. The reality is that each generation comes with its own rules for the workplace.
