TrainingBriefs® When the Boss Calls a Meeting

Communicating Across Generations

Each of our different experiences and expectations are why learning to communicate across generations is so important. The reality is that each generation comes with its own rules for the workplace. Using the M.E.E.T.® approach is like having a coach helping us through the process. That way we create shared understanding, new agreements, and clear expectations.

Additional Information

Our generational differences tend to influence our views about authority and hierarchy. They also impact the things we say and how we say them. The “command and control” leadership style was often experienced as the norm by Baby Boomers. Xers tend to be more collaborative, have less hierarchy and sometimes fewer, or more relaxed, rules. This is even more true for Millennials and Zs as they become the majority of the workforce.
