You might be wondering, 'is this training really necessary'? You might also be thinking, ‘That could never happen here.’ The truth is that these events can happen – and are happening – everywhere. The stakes are just too high, and the margin of error is just too thin in an armed intruder event - to not be as prepared as we can be.

Several years ago, during the shootings at Virginia Tech University, a man entered the campus with only handguns. During that event, the local SWAT teams did a fantastic job responding. In fact, they were there and on the scene within just two minutes. One of the best responses ever! However, a tremendous loss of life occurred. We don’t appreciate the value of time until we are under duress in a crisis.

Our nation’s first responders are trained to protect us the best they can. And they do an incredible job. But the fact is you cannot wait for the police or the good guys to come and save you. In those crucial moments when an attack begins, YOU are the true first responder. Saving you and those around you is up to YOU.
